Kingston Holidays

A group of dynamic professional women, who have been lifelong friends, decided that it was time to return to their roots in Kingston Jamaica and give up, once and for all, chasing the dream of climbing the corporate ladder and breaking the elusive glass ceiling. It was time to return to those wonderful forgotten days of life in Kingston where the temperature rarely goes below 70 degrees, the beach is only 30 minutes away, the “Fish & Festival” and “Ackee & Saltfish” are mouth wateringly good, the pulsating reggae music beat forms the backdrop and the people are warm and welcoming to all who are brave enough to come…
We were always talking about starting a business and this continued for the better part of 30 years but as we all know there is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come. We have always had a passion for real estate investment, interior design and artistic expression in dance, art, music and drama. The challenge was to come up with an idea that not only made good business sense but would be fun to do and would provide the opportunity to use those latent creative skills that we had all but forgotten, that we have in such abundance. KHR combines the love for real estate and the passion for Kingston into a great website that showcases the best of Kingston. Beautiful places to stay, great places to eat, breathtaking sites to see, cultural and historic places of interest to visit and current events and activities are all part of the KHR website.
We look forward to taking you with us on the ride as we rediscover our roots and chronicle the evolution of a city whose reputation is unparalleled in the region for being both infamous and famous. The city is both feared and revered in equal measure. Kingston is after all, the birthplace of Reggae Music and is home to the Bob Marley Museum. However there is also a dark side to the City that many of us believe provides fertile soil for the amazing creative expression that is deeply entrenched in our culture.
We also look forward to your valuable feedback on the articles and other content on this website as we strive to improve our offerings and better serve you our visitors. So buckle up and prepare for a wonderful ride through an iconic Caribbean city…Kingston, Jamaica WI

This is a very inspiring story and an accurate take on Kingston, Jamaica. My trips to Jamaica have always been rejuvenating, exhilarating and enjoyable. Knowing the right places to stay and visit while in Kingston helps a lot. I stayed in New Kingston last time, which is nice and central to restaurants, businesses and Emancipation Park (great for morning walks). It is also pretty close to one place that I have to go to every time I’m in Kingston, Devon House. In addition to the beautiful gardens and antique architecture, I can savor the tastes of patties (of all types), plantain tarts, and their always popular yummy icecream. http://www.devonhousejamaica.com/
On my last trip to Kingston I was able to go to a live alternative scene music party that occurs once a month in Bull Bay called Jamnesia. The party is held at the beach side home of some famous Jamaican surfers. Here is their website in case you are surfing inclined http://www.jamnesia.20megsfree.com/. If I happen to be in Jamaica during the season when the National Dance Theater Company has their performances, it is an extra special treat for me. These dancers who are accompanied by live musicians are amazingly talented.

My favorite highlights from my last couple visits include a lovely trip to Ocho Rios with family for a few nights, Port Royal for some tasty fish with bammy, sweet potato or rice and beans. Back in 2009 I made my first trip to the Blue Mountains was a fun and challenging experience. We drove up one afternoon in a 4 by 4 pick up truck, over nighted in our own cabin at Whitfield Hall, then hiked to the peak the next day. After a 2 night stay in the misty mountains and buying some world famous Blue Mountain Coffee at a great discounted rate we made our way to Portland for 3 nights. On route to Portland we drove through St. Mary and passed so many fruit vendors (we had our share of refreshing coconut water) and tons of ripe mangos on the road. In Boston Bay we stayed at Great Huts (who offer a 20% discount if you have a Jamaican passport) and visited the nearby beaches like Frenchmans Cove. The vibe out in Portland was mellow and sweet. Definitely a place Id like to visit on another trip. Jamaica has so much to see and do. All of it relaxing and enjoyable. I can’t wait until my next trip.

Firstly I would like to say for many reasons I dislike hotels, unless a hotel stay is absolutely necessary I would much prefer to stay at a holiday home, condo or apartment. Hiring a vehicle as my mode of transport and experiencing the people and local surroundings at a more “down to earth” level is equally important for me in Jamaica.

I stayed at ‘Ravers’ with my friend and long time travelling partner. The location of this apartment could not have been better. Since we are two females who have travelled to Jamaica many times, we were both more than satisfied with this 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment. Our time spent here is always divided by exploring other parishes, finding beaches off the beaten track and experiencing new findings. Our time in Kingston consists of visiting friends/family and what everyone loves to do in the heart of Jamaica – party!

Staying in Kingston can sometimes take its toll, the hustle and bustle in smouldering heat and partying, not to mention the copious amount of local rum consumed; ‘Ravers’ is the perfect retreat. The patio doors in the lounge which lead out to the immaculately kept and huge garden was just so peaceful at any time of the day, perfect for chillaxing and reading, a complete haven – just what you need in Kingston.

We were spoilt for choice with many different eateries for breakfast, lunch, supper and drinks, the Acropolis Bar at the Barbican Centre became our local haunt for drinks.

Purchasing fresh fruit and salad items each day was easy with Hi-Lo supermarket literally five minutes away. You can get hold of almost everything you need in Barbican; we became friends with quite a few of the local vendors who sold the most delicious ‘box’ food.

Grace was our first point of contact for ‘Ravers’, she manages the property very well and was a joy to meet; she called us during our stay to make sure everything was alright too. The apartment has everything you could possibly need; we lacked nothing and loved the fact that the apartment was so cool and airy as it was so often extremely hot outside.

The housekeeper Mrs Darling certainly lived up to her name, her attention to detail with cleaning is great. The linens on the bed were always crisp and fresh smelling as where the selection of fresh and fluffy towels.

I would like to say a big THANK YOU to Grace who did not hesitate to return my emails when I had questions to ask, she was an absolute pleasure to correspond with. My friend and I will definitely be returning to stay.

I would not hesitate to recommend this apartment.
